QUICK RECIPE OVERVIEW

Why you’ll love it

  • A fresh, homemade sauce that comes together in minutes using simple, wholesome ingredients. Greek yogurt adds creaminess and a little extra protein, making it a delicious alternative to mayo-based sauces.

What Makes It So Flavorful?

Ripe avocado creates a buttery-smooth texture, while fresh cilantro, lime, garlic, and jalapeño bring a lively balance of citrus, herbs, and gentle heat.

Helpful Tips

  • Use a perfectly ripe avocado for the smoothest texture. Start with half the lime juice and gradually add more to balance the tanginess. Add water a little at a time for a thinner, drizzle-friendly consistency.

Ingredients:

  • ½ ripe avocado, peeled and pitted

  • ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt (2% or full-fat)

  • ¼ cup packed fresh cilantro

  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lime juice

  • ¼ jalapeño, seeded and chopped

  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cumin

  • ½ garlic clove, minced

  • ⅛ teaspoon sea salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

  • 1–2 teaspoons water, as needed to thin

Method:

  1. Add the avocado, Greek yogurt, cilantro, 1 tablespoon lime juice, jalapeño, cayenne, cumin, garlic, salt, and pepper to a blender or small food processor. Blend until smooth.

  2. Slowly drizzle in the olive oil and blend until creamy.

    3. Adjust the consistency. Add water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until the sauce reaches your desired thickness. Add the remaining lime juice to taste.

    4. Serve. Taste and adjust seasonings before serving over burgers, tacos, salads, or grain bowls.

Helpful Tip: For a lighter sauce, use just 1 tablespoon olive oil. The avocado and Greek yogurt already create a wonderfully creamy texture.

Recipe Notes

  • Serving Ideas: Delicious over Black Bean Burgers, chicken tacos, burrito bowls, grilled fish, or roasted sweet potatoes.

  • Make It a Dressing: Add a little extra water or lime juice for a thinner consistency that's perfect for drizzling over salads and grain bowls.

  • Adjust the Heat: Remove the jalapeño seeds and membranes for a milder flavor. For more spice, add additional jalapeño or a pinch of cayenne.

  • Extra Creamy: Full-fat Greek yogurt creates a richer texture, while 2% Greek yogurt keeps the sauce slightly lighter.

  • Storage: Refrigerate in an airtight container for up to 2–3 days. Press plastic wrap directly against the surface to help minimize browning. Stir before serving.

  • Make-Ahead: For the freshest color and flavor, prepare the sauce shortly before serving. The lime juice helps slow browning, but the avocado may naturally darken over time.
