QUICK RECIPE OVERVIEW

Why you’ll love it

  • This is one of those simple sauces that makes everything on your plate taste better. Keep a bowl in the fridge for an easy addition to grilled chicken, roasted vegetables, or a quick Mediterranean lunch.

What Makes It So Flavorful?

Fresh cucumber adds a light crunch, while dill or mint brings a fresh, aromatic flavor. Garlic, lemon, and olive oil balance the tangy Greek yogurt.

Helpful Tips

  • The secret to thick, creamy tzatziki is squeezing out as much moisture as possible from the grated cucumber. This keeps your sauce from becoming watery, especially if you're making it ahead.

ABOUT 8 SERVINGS | PREP 10 MINUTES | COOK NONE

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium cucumber, peeled and grated

  • 1½ cups plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice

  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh dill or mint

  • 1 garlic clove, finely minced

  • ¼ teaspoon sea salt

  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Method:

  1. Prepare the cucumber. Peel and grate the cucumber using a box grater. Place in a clean kitchen towel or several layers of paper towels and squeeze firmly to remove excess moisture.

  2. Mix the yogurt base. In a medium bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, and chopped dill or mint.

  3. Add the cucumber. Fold the drained cucumber into the yogurt mixture. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

  4. Chill and serve. Refrigerate for 15–30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend. Stir gently, taste, and adjust the lemon juice or seasoning before serving.

Recipe Notes

  • Storage: Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3–4 days. Stir before serving, and drain off any liquid that collects on top.

  • Make Ahead: Tzatziki tastes even better after a little time in the refrigerator. Prepare it a few hours before serving to let the garlic and herbs develop their flavor.

  • Serving Ideas: Spoon over chicken shawarma bowls, serve alongside salmon or grilled vegetables, or use as a spread in gluten-free wraps and sandwiches.

  • Herb Options: Dill gives tzatziki its classic savory flavor, while mint adds a lighter, refreshing touch. For the best of both, use 1 tablespoon of each.

  • Extra Creamy Tip: Full-fat Greek yogurt creates a richer, thicker tzatziki that holds up especially well as a dip.
