QUICK RECIPE OVERVIEW

Why you’ll love it

  • A simple, nourishing drink made with everyday ingredients that takes just minutes to prepare. It's a lovely alternative to coffee or tea when you're craving something warm and caffeine-free.

What Makes It So Flavorful?

Earthy turmeric, zesty ginger, warm cinnamon, and fragrant cardamom blend with creamy milk, a hint of vanilla, and just enough sweetness to balance the spices.

Helpful Tips

  • Gently warm the milk without boiling, allowing the spices to infuse for a richer flavor. Add a pinch of black pepper to enhance curcumin absorption, and whisk or froth before serving for a smooth, velvety finish.

2 SERVINGS | PREP 5 MINUTES | COOK 5-7 MINUTES

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups unsweetened milk of choice (dairy, soy, almond, or coconut)

  • ¾ teaspoon ground turmeric

  • 1 teapoon freshly grated ginger (or ½ teaspoon ground ginger)

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cardamom, optional

  • ⅛ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract

  • 1-2 teaspoons pure maple syrup or honey, optional, to taste

  • 1-2 teaspoons ghee

Method:

  1. Combine the spices. In a small saucepan, whisk together the turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, black pepper, and cardamom, with a few tablespoons of milk until smooth.

  2. Add the milk. Slowly whisk in the remaining milk until everything is well combined.

  3. Warm gently. Heat over medium-low heat for 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until hot and fragrant. Avoid boiling.

  4. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and maple syrup or honey, if using. Taste and adjust the sweetness.

  5. Serve warm. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve if using fresh ginger and you prefer a smoother drink. Pour into two mugs and enjoy.

Recipe Notes

  • Best Milk Options: Whole or 2% dairy milk creates a naturally creamy drink and provides protein. Unsweetened soy milk is a good plant-based alternative with protein, while almond milk makes a lighter version.

  • Fresh vs. Ground Ginger: Fresh ginger creates a brighter, slightly zesty flavor. Ground ginger gives a smoother, more mellow spice.

  • For Extra Creaminess: Froth the warm milk with a handheld milk frother just before serving for a café-style golden latte.

  • Make Ahead: Prepare a double batch and refrigerate in a covered glass jar for up to 2–3 days. Reheat gently, whisking well since the spices naturally settle.

  • Nutrition Tip: Turmeric contains curcumin, a plant compound studied for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. Black pepper contains piperine, which may improve curcumin absorption. A little fat from your choice of milk can also help with absorption.
